@michaelsayman @sarahfrier Interesting news. Best of luck, Michael!

I’ll admit I had been hesitant to #buildinpublic for my own app with you there.
People have asked me if Musk buying Twitter is bad news for my startup and the answer is:

Maybe.

I used to be able to count on Twitter’s sclerotic product development. I doubt that will continue, but now I have some validation for my subscription revenue model.

I loathe the traditional SWE interview process so I’m disrupting it. We give candidates for this position a choice:

• Walk us through a personal project that uses our stack
• A 1hr live coding exercise
• Same exercise as a 4hr take home test

One of the most difficult parts about being a pre-product founder is that you can take about five minutes to celebrate your wins before you need to move on, and also no one cares.

It’s me! I’m hiring.

This is a chance for an experienced engineer to get into @nuprizm at ground level, and work with my team of talented native engineers.

The right candidate could be @nuprizm’s first full-time hire. Interested? Reach out!

What’s a reasonable amount to spend on building an attractive pitch deck (I.e. designs, icons, charts, etc)?

Follow me here for more updates while I #buildinpublic, while I also share some lessons I’ve learned in my personal and professional life that I think have helped me get to this point.

Are you building in public? Say hi 👋 below, and I’ll follow your journey too!
Excited to announce a return to #buildinpublic for @nuprizm!

I decided to narrow the scope of the MVP in the fall and determined it was more important to focusing solely on building.

Here’s what’s changed and why.

🧵
The Wall Street Journal rolled out a read time feature on their articles today.

Publishers rely on a variety of formatting templates and are consistently adding features, which means my web scrapers have to capture changes so I can handle them.

#buildinpublic
Completed the full integration of my webscrapers, server app and iOS app this weekend. Huge milestone!

Now I’m staring down designs decisions. At this arc of our technological process, design intent is as much or even more important than technology stacks.

One important skill of entrepreneurship is acknowledging the boundaries of your expertise and when to search for help. To that end, this has been a great week!

👩‍🎨 Possible UX/UI partner secured
👨‍💻 High-level tech advisor secured
🤏 MVP scope narrowed

Twitter trying dislikes and publisher collabs energizes me though it could be seen as competitive.

What Twitter gets wrong with this specific approach is they are focusing on centralization when info and tech should be doing the opposite.

Scraped @FoxNews to add it to my news aggregator tonight. Some edge cases still to handle, but mostly down. Excited how quickly I now can reverse engineer websites. Now just to extend this momentum to DevOps!

#buildinpublic
Shifted gears the last few days because I needed a win. Successfully scraped @HuffPost for my platform, and am part of the way through @CNN.

CNN, being a multimedia organization with a more dynamic webpage, is more technically challenging to scrape.

Reread this today. Still the most lucid account of the trade-offs inherent in content moderation at scale.

Beyond speed to market, it’s this complexity that’s driven me to narrow the scope of the MVP of my platform, essentially lowering the stakes for success.

#buildinpublic
Implemented a microservice for my app’s backend that will run my web scraping script at regular intervals.

Down from 40 hours to 6 on these tasks and expect to accelerate the pace.

Also diagramed my backend to aid my architectural process. More to come!

#buildinpublic
Finally fixed a stubborn deployment misconfiguration with @MongoDB and @Docker that took me almost 40 hours to resolve. Painfully slow, but progress nonetheless.

Usually I’d celebrate with a beer, but I’m on day 3 of a 5 day fast. So right back at it! #winning

All the wrong incentives drive our social media platforms. I’m building one based on healthier incentives, to empower the > 90% of users who never post with the capacity to impact the reach of toxic content.

We are are less divided than we seem.

🚨 Now out in @PNASNews 🚨

Analyzing social media posts from news accounts and politicians (n = 2,730,215), we found that the biggest predictor of "virality" (out of all predictors we measured) was whether a social media post was about one's outgroup.

Another night of unsuccessfully trying to mount my @codevapor server app to a #docker container.

These seemingly intractable problems are usually two lines of code that seem mind-numbingly simple in retrospect... just part of the learning curve.

#buildinpublic
Attempted to deploy my server app to @Docker tonight. No luck. I am nevertheless grateful for the @codevapor community on @discord, where a few anonymous devs somewhere in the world have been helping me along. #community
