INSPIC's react photo editor component now supports infinite scrolling for selecting images.

Up next: connect it to an actual image API.

#buildinpublic
Today I added search phrase in URL for INSPIC. meaning you can hit search from the home page and reach the photo search page for the relevant query.

Still have way to go until launch but it gets closer every day.

Today, the INSPIC react photo editor component has been refactored so that it better fits the next steps: connecting it to an actual image API, which is what we would be doing next.

Updates coming soon :)

Onboarded a new developer today to my small software engineering agency.

A past client wants to continue working together from a few weeks from now.

Will have him help me push INSPIC until then, maybe even we'd get to the MVP finish line :)

Updates soon...

Really excited to share that In the last few months I have fulfilled a long time dream of creating my own software development agency.

Currently we are 3 developers serving 3 different clients.

More details & the story how I did it coming soon...

After quite some time of not touching INSPIC project I sat down and planned my tasks to launch the MVP.

Slightly more tasks than I had thought are left, but at least I know what I need to do to launch.

Here's a teaser of what's going on there now:

Figma and Canva would not exist if their founders would listen to "you can do it with Photoshop".

It's OK to build something that you could achieve with an existing tool, so long as you make the life of the user easier or provide some other type of value.

Today I finished making the "page per search query" feature in Photoland.

Now all that's left to do is create a way to manage which pages are indexed in google and which are not, depending on the quality of each results page - and the feature would be shipped.

Recently, I've been debating what I want to do next with my indie projects.

For now, I decided to pause Photoland work and let my SEO efforts kick in while I build INSPIC.

Will finish up last SEO related Photoland features and get the INSPIC ball rolling :)

After a few months of doing freelancing only, I finally have time to get back to Photoland.

First task: making the search term be part of the URL, so I could improve the SEO for various keywords.

Will keep you posted :)

Today I resolved a sneaky user registration bug in Photoland.

Happened due to a cognito imposed 5 seconds lambda timeout, which I ended up resolving by increasing the memory, thus the speed of the lambda.

Happy people can now sign up to Photoland again :)

Today was one of those days that I’ve taken the time to write 0 lines of code, and just think about where I want to take my side projects.

Any time I do that I think I should do it more, as this “outside” perspective is a lot different than the day to day one.

#buildinpublic
Recently, after some time of social media activity for photoland.co I'm starting to see more registrations & photographer uploads!

Exciting times, some bugs are uncovered along the way, but that's great news.

Now excuse me I gotta go fix them ;)

Throughout my entire career I created side projects in my free time.

But, I was scared to launch due to imperfection.

Launching a small low expectation product helped me overcome the fear and realize if I could do that-I can launch something bigger.

Launch it.

In the past 2 day I interviewed 6 photographers for Photoland.

It's the first time I do this kind of interviews.

My key takeaway so far: focus on learning your user's problems before suggesting your solutions.

It gives insights you would not otherwise get.

I refrained for too long from talking to people about my product.

I viewed "validation" as daunting task.

Even when I heard @arvidkahl talking about the need of this, I thought products doing the same is enough of a validation.

But here's what I learned 👇

#buildinpublic
Today I dedicated time to finding #photographers to talk to with regards to the future of Photoland.

I want to be sure I am building something that's most useful for them to monetize, so I intend to them talk about my thoughts for monetization.

Today I did a revamp of the Malabi open source docs, making them a lot easier to use.

If you ever need to write nodejs integration tests and use the library, would love to hear your feedback :)

So I replaced the AWS api with Google translate api…

Love AWS but when it comes to translation the results are by far better with Google.

#buildinpublic #buildinginpublic
Today I added @awscloud translation API into my stock photography search engine, so that non-English users could search in their native language.

"I'll read just another book to start working on my project".

- Me, a few years ago.

Validate, and then start building.

You can never read enough books to start doing your thing.
