Let's start day 1.

The goals for today
1 - Get data on all boundaries of all countries and their provinces.
2 - Draw it on a map and run it locally.
3 - Find the source of temperature averages.

#buildinpublic
It's time to build something useful.

Timing: 1 week to build and launch.

Problem: plan a long-distance trip based on the weather.

Solution: a map that shows an average/min/max temperature for any month in any place in the world.

Starting tomorrow.

I will #buildinpublic
1 response on FB, 1 reponse on Reddit. That is below my expectations.

Learnings:
- some countries are not popular for touring
- people don't have experience in such countries and have nothing to share
- there are local FB communities in some countries

The experiment is not going great. Too few responses.

Raising the stakes and posting on Reddit 😱

I have a new idea for bicycle tourists. This time I am trying to validate it a bit differently.

1 - write out risks
2 - collect data on them
3 - make hypotheses and test them on real people

Also, it's all public oleglite.notion.site/oleglite/Touri…

Launched touringstories.com

Plan for today:
- share an example story with a couple of bicycle touring communities
- contact a few people who may be interested

Wish me luck. That's freaking scary to do this for the first time 😬

Who said that backend devs can not do stylish design? 🧐

A sneak peek of what I am working on today.

Excited to finally build something πŸ˜ƒ

Found a problem that has solutions, but they are free and of low quality.

I'm not sure whether people will pay for a better solution.

Today I studied the ways to validate it.

It looks like I need to remember some HTML πŸ™‚

Today I spent a lot of time learning about complaints in bicycle touring communities.

It turns out, there are not so many problems that can be solved with software.

Now I'm not sure, that choosing a hobby-related audience is a great idea.

#indiehackers #buildinpublic
Now I have 43 communities of bicycle travelers.

What's next? Focus on communities with the most engagement.

How do I choose them? Check the number of posts and the number of useful comments in each community. Then I rate the engagement with a 1 to 5 scale.

#buildinpublic
It's time to choose the niche and explore it more deeply.

I decided to start with my favorite hobby - bicycle touring.

I had several bike trips in Europe that are among the greatest memories of my life.

That will be fun.

I was thinking about local-first software for a long time.

Enough.

Today I started to build an awesome list of software that:

- stores user data locally
- perfectly works offline
- outlives the developer
- can not be restricted
- works even on Mars

Yesterday I made a post to Indie Hackers and nobody read it 😟

What is wrong? My assumptions:
- the title is not catchy
- the topic is not hyped
- lack of followers
- posted it only to Twitter and IH

Going to improve it in the next post ✊
