Ok, making lot of progress now. I managed to integrate into the Gmail UI and make API calls on the click of a button. Got a first MVP running which converts bullet points into an email. Next step:

Ok I found an SDK that allows you to interact with the Gmail Interface. Played around with it a bit and was able to create a simple „Hello World“ Gmail Extension. #buildinpublic
