Since listening on @arvidkahl:s podcast on calm businesses, I have been thinking about the sales funnel.
We tend to focus on TOFU stuff (lead generation, SEO, etc). You as a small startup founder should probably focus on customer fit more.

So, Arvid Kahl wrote the following:
twitter.com/arvidkahl/stat… (TL;DR, post 5 meaningful tweets a day, get 100s or 1000s of followers).

This is the conclusion thread. Graph below shows my progress. So, is Arvid correct?

Yes, I think so. But it needs context.

If you show up every day and engage in just five Twitter conversations, you lay the foundation to have hundreds, if not thousands, of followers after a few weeks.

The secret? Consistently adding something meaningful & valuable to those conversations without asking for anything.
It is characteristic of every SEO thread I have read that they differ violently from each other, apart from building links and having good content.

So, I think we should start reading threads on writing and link-building instead πŸ˜…

It struck me that by BuildingInPublic, you at least mitigate the HiPPO problem, i.e β€œthe Highest Paid Person's Opinion”.

Agree or disagree?

So, I'm somewhat new to the buildinpublic community.

Who do I need to follow?

The main issue with experimenting with user behaviour is that you need a bit of volume (<100 or the outcome says nothing) and A/B testing.

There is a lot of bias in changing the ui and looking at the data. It's a very tricky problem. πŸ˜…

Experimentation generally leads to success in startups IMHO, but its also dependant on the method you use to evaluate them and tge strictness of your method.

Give a like or a comment if I should philosophize around this πŸ˜‰

I know I'm really into releasing only perfection, so my current projects plan is to have a clearly defined MVP, and that I will allow myself 2 weeks to polish after this. Anyone have any other suggestions to avoid the perfection pitfall?

I have tried that during the last two weeks and is going to continue during the next 10 days. Notes on this in thread. πŸ™‚

I’m going through my twitter statistics and one thing that is clear (even at 100-300 impressions per tweet) is that not all tweets are created equally, impact/follower vise.

I need to ponder this a bit more, but I’l post a follow up later today.

I have thought a fair bit about marketing SaaS lately.
We want to reach the people feeling pain I recon, but I feel we tend to focus on activities that are general, like blogging or tweeting rather than talking at people when they feel the pain. πŸ€”

Who else is struggling with logs smeared over a bunch of systems?

I wonder how long it will get until there are automatic downvote apps that downvotes all responses in a conversation apart from yours....

@SikiraAmer Ahh, I have seen a bunch of devs in the #buildinpublic who mentioned that they went for the build step first, so.... πŸ˜…
@MighteaOwl @arvidkahl Mate! You have 8+ years of dev experience. I'm certain that you have a lot of things to contribute. :)

As for finding discussions, I would search #buildinpublic and #indiedev, and go from there. :)

I tried that, and is going to continue during the next two weeks. In short, a 72% increase in followers over 7 days, see chart below.

I feel that every tweet as a response I make is one that could be summed up in "when it comes to development/building a SaaS, context matters".
I need a new tagline I think πŸ˜…

Whats the worst SaaS that you still use and why?

#buildinpublic #indiehackers
I'm starting to wonder if validation of a SaaS isn't about two metrics, namely validating that you can drive traffic and validating that people is interested in your idea... πŸ€”
