#buildinpublic This is a fun one- stumbled upon a @MicroConf YT vid where @robwalling talks about hacking his way to 7k MRR. Screenshotted the sample email he used and sent to my EA to transcribe. Modified for my SaaS then sent out to 20 target users. Results? 👇
#buildinpublic About to hit our Sales & Marketing dept EOS strategy session. Being on leadership (CEO) and also head of this dept gives me a unique vantage point to tie the larger company goals to the department Rocks, otherwise this seems like a blind spot in the EOS system.
#buildinpublic day 27: Following up from our EOS offsite and putting the Rocks I'm responsible for into the universe so the law of intention can work it's magic. We will have the first paying customer for our external SaaS by the end of Q1 and 1/
#buildinpublic day 26: day 1/2 of EOS off-site. First time going through with new, experienced, COO on the leadership team. I know it's good day when I've got a knot in my stomach afterwards from how big the goals we're setting are. Pics of VTO tomorrow, steaks n bonding await.
#buildinpublic day 25: Pivoting from Amazon managed services to a daycare for sick kids. Based on sample size of 1 the market would gladly pay multiple thousands a day for help solving this problem. In a shocking development, little progress made on the launch front.
#buildinpublic day 27: Every time we use an AI writing tool I think "what happens to the internet when everyone uses these? In the meantime they're pretty freiking amazing to go from 0-80%, then a human can get it across the finish line. The (AI) revolution will not be televised
#buildinpublic day 26: subfloor prepped and ready, what a weekend for playoffs and I went “Fiverr challenge” with a few different providers to come up with some FB creative. Should have initial ads back in a few and I’ll start testing traffic to lander this week.
#buildinpublic day25: Zen and the art of hardwood floor installation. Yes I know I can pay someone to come do this but after sit/standing in front of a computer all day every day it feels great to work 1/
#buildinpublic day24; Anyone else here get the yips on their own landing pages but expert when looking at anyone elses? I know it's the combo of fresh eyes and "it's my baby-itis" but would love a methodology that could give me the creativity I get when looking at other work 1/3
#buildinpublic day 23: first screenshot tease of our upcoming SaaS. Trying to figure out how to K.I.S.S. on the pricing for now but not piss off OG adopters. Thinking of a high price but huge % discount and viral loop like the early days of Dropbox. Call with @JordanGal
#buildinpublic day 22: (content idea generation sheet in last tweet) "good artists copy, great artists steal" - Michael Scott. Ok maybe it was Picasso or someone else but it's true. After reading the Sam Walton bio, dude walked around, saw who was doing it better & copied em
#buildinpublic day 21: took the strategy day notes and broke them up into quarterly rocks. It's enough to feel a bit daunting but not overwhelming. I've got a content strategy and pricing test on my Q rocks so look forward to exploring those more here.
#buildinpublic day 21: one of life's joys is putting in a few hours of high level deep work on a holiday. No slack, no meetings, no fires, all focus. New COO starting this week and I want to make sure we nail the first 90.
#buildinpublic day 20: sports betting is very hard. Also getting market feedback from the perfect target avatar after a couple of drinks might be the best qualitative market research method ever invented. (Boozy focus groups anyone?)
#buildinpublic day 19: Vegas for wildcard weekend with the boys. No direct business action but great to be around smart accomplished people who I've got the highest level of trust with doing fun stuff.
#buildinpublic day 18: threw up a poll on Reddit to get feedback about our main USP. Up to 20 responses with 6 days to go. Initial results are looking good (current market split between expensive sw with long contracts and spreadsheets). Next week I'll start planning YT content
#buildinpublic day17: after a long strategy day yesterday, we did a walking food tour of Seattle today. Just as important as yesterday (probably even more so). I used to write-off culture but it really seems to be the glue that binds high functioning teams together.
#buildinpublic day 16: Flew my head of tech out from MN for an in-person. First time meeting in meatspace. As great as zoom is, nothing beats in person, caffeine and a whiteboard for mapping out the future. Time for old fashioneds underneath the Bezos Balls (AZ Spheres)
#buildinpublic day 15: Playing shuttle driver for a 2 year old with a runny nose searching for an open covid testing appointment so he can go back 2 daycare. How much productivity lost during COVID from parents doing this. Thank you @JordanGal for understanding.
#buildinpublic day 14- think we came up with a really creative workaround for amazon flat file updating for products that aren’t supported on the new API yet. We could cheat and scrape but that’s not sustainable long term. Be back tomorrow with more updates.
